What happens is that when i hit record in Wavelab i get this error: I also tried selecting specific recording/playback input/output pairs within Wavelab (MME-WDM Fireface 400 Analog(1+2)) but still no joy. I would understand this if i had the ASIO driver selected in Wavelab, but i have purposely selected the MME-WDM Microsoft Sound Mapper driver within Wavelab so i can reference audio from the browser in between takes. Audio playback from either application whilst they are both open however is fine, even simultaneously. I'm not able to record in Wavelab if i have a web browser open at the same time. This problem is related to a Fireface400 on an Windows XP SP3 system, running Wavelab 6. Leave the RMS level low enough to maintain coherent dynamics of the material.My first post here, hopefully someone can put me straight. I agree with all of the posters on this topic about over compressing. I've found Wavelab to be lacking compared to other mastering programs. The Wavelab Mastering Section is an automatic feature that simplifies things for intermediate engineers, but IMHO, you would be better off getting a viable hard knee limiter, and learn how to use it to set your volume to match the commercial squash. In the case of going to cd directly after Wavelab processing, you want to set the dither, to 16 bits, Type 1 noise shaping, set the faders to the amount of dB's that you want the perceived output to relate. You can use the Mastering Section in Wavelab to increase the loudness. But I think that he wants to master his own stuff. Give the mastering house the highest bit and sample rate that you have recorded and or mixed to and leave the dithering off, if you "have" to reduce the wordlength. Joe makes a good point, if you are going to mastering house, leave the dynamic processing and eq off of the stereo bus, run it flat with no fx.
